Spider God

He who tells the story is revered by a number of quite separate cultures across the world. Though known by many names, he is consistently represented as a shapeshifting harvestman spider, who sometimes takes different forms to enact his convoluted schemes. The Webspinner is usually a trickster deity, and is commonly seen fooling his enemies into doing things they'd rather not. Almost all faiths to which he belongs tell of how he stole the secret of storytelling from the ruling spirit, and he is often viewed as a benefactor of rebellion or change, and accordingly either good if the culture values independence or evil if it venerates obedience. His scheming sometimes gets the better of him, though, and after a plot to make all the gods mortal went wrong five hundred years ago, most of the pantheons who knew him and their followers believe him to be dead...
